Interweave donates hypothermia blankets to Happy Days charity

At Interweave, our social responsibility to the community is very important to us. As part of this, we have donated our THERMARMOUR patient warming blankets to local charity Happy Days. The charity support and empower people who are homeless or in crisis, to live independent and purposeful lives.

On top of our blanket donation, we have signed up to be a member of the Happy Days Foundation Club, donating money on a monthly basis. Monetary donations allow these vital services to continue, and we are proud to support their work.

Why are THERMARMOUR blankets needed?

For those sleeping outdoors, the increasingly cold weather across the winter period poses several challenges. A lack of warm clothing and shelter means people cannot get warm, or stay warm. This heightens their hypothermia risk. The team at Happy Days told us they see many cold and wet individuals during the winter.

The combination of cold air, wind and rain, and long time spent outdoors makes it extremely difficult to maintain a safe core temperature. Once a person is hypothermic, treating it is much more difficult than prevention. It also increases the risk of complications and further health issues. Hypothermia blanket use is a simple and fast way to combat the risk of developing hypothermia.

How do they work?

Hypothermia prevention blankets are made from a multi-layer bonded fabric, designed around the principle of producing both reflective and convection heat. There is no need for a secondary warming source, as the blanket captures body heat from the person, and re-circulates it. The simplicity and convenience of the blanket makes it ideal for emergency situations.

The combination of being cold and wet increases the chances of developing hypothermia. Getting to shelter and out of wet clothes is a priority, but when an individual is homeless, this is much more difficult. Fortunately, THERMARMOUR blankets can also be used when the individual is wet. This reduces the risk of hypothermia occurring whilst waiting for medical attention or for shelter to be able to change out of the wet clothes.

Happy Days charity

Happy Days are a charity based in Halifax, West Yorkshire. They are dedicated to providing a variety of support and services to homeless individuals or those in crisis. This includes temporary support such as the Winter Shelter, the Community Café and access to weekly medical services. The charity also gives tailored support that encourages long-term responsibility. This includes providing support to learn new skills, help overcoming addiction, gaining employment and tenancy, and more.

This all-round approach sets their service users up for the future. One growing area of the charity is the Community Supermarket, aiming to tackle food poverty. The supermarket allows customers the opportunity to purchase their own food, at a reduced cost. All members are also able to open a Credit Union account, which is credited with every shop at the Community Supermarket. Helping them to save for the future. Learn more about Happy Days here.

Supporting Happy Days

We are very proud to support the team and their essential services. If you are a business, or an individual, you can support the charity in a number of ways. Businesses can become a member of the Happy Days Foundation Club, participate in fundraising events and raise awareness.

Individuals can volunteer, donate, take part in fundraising activities, or become a Key Giver. This provides a monthly donation to give someone a safe place to sleep. Learn more about how you can help here.
